Approach
Hard things, done methodically.
That is how I climb, and it is how I work. AI makes the fast part faster. My job is to make sure the rest keeps up: the direction, the checking, and the memory of what was decided and why.
Principles
Five things that don’t change.
Tools will keep changing every few months. These are the parts of the work I hold constant.
Judgment stays with people.
AI can draft, analyze and code. Deciding what counts, what is good enough and what happens next stays a human responsibility. I help you keep it where it belongs.
Evidence over impressions.
I look at what was actually done - the briefs, the outputs, the records, the decisions - not at a description of it. Findings point to something you can open and check.
Leave a record.
Every engagement ends with plans, decisions and evidence on file, in plain formats you own and can read without me or any particular tool.
Teach, don’t just do.
I spent nearly a decade as a professor, and teaching is still how I work. The goal is your capability, not your dependence on an advisor.
Independent by design.
I don’t resell models, platforms or subscriptions. The one tool I bring, the Axis Workflow, is my own free, open-source project: you can read it, use it, or leave it.
What you won’t get
No platform. No juniors. No slideware.
Large firms are built to sell volume. A one-person practice is built to be useful, so some things are deliberately missing.
- A platform license or a subscription to renew.
- A team of junior consultants learning on your budget.
- A slide deck in place of work that runs.
- Recommendations nobody wrote down, and nobody can check later.
- An engagement you didn’t need.
Where this comes from
Three decades on one question.
How do organizations turn a new technology into real work?
I have worked on that question for over 30 years.
Re-engineering processes
At Mercer Management Consulting (now Oliver Wyman): process re-engineering for a major US railway and the privatization of the Polish State Railway. Where this started.
Building them
Founded or co-founded, from an online marketplace for technical experts in 1994 to Quant AI, a data-science and AI consultancy I founded and sold in 2024.
Researching and teaching
Professor of strategy at Purdue and EPFL, where I held the Chair of Technology and Innovation Strategy and founded the Data Science for Managers executive program.
The method in the open
The Axis Workflow
I created the Axis Workflow™ so that the discipline in these engagements does not live only in my head. It is a free, open-source (MIT License) way to run AI agents with a plan, tracked tasks, write-once records and an independent check of important work, in plain files on your own computer. It is a separate project, and you can use it without ever hiring me.
Next step
Start with a conversation.
A paragraph about the project is enough. You will get a direct answer.
